On 22 July, ARISE Brentwood – DRCC Youth shared highlights from the end-of-year Summer Party, which brought young people together for BBQ food, prizes, games, laughter and a water fight. It was a positive way to close the school year and celebrate the friendships, conversations and support built through the youth club.

So, what is the youth club, and why do young people keep coming back?

Arise Brentwood Youth Club is a safe and welcoming weekly space where teenagers can relax, be themselves and connect with others their age. Whether someone has had a good day or a difficult one, there is always a friendly face, someone to chat to and a place to feel included.

Each week includes a mix of activities to get involved in, including games, table tennis, pool, creative activities, discussion time and food. It gives young people a break from the pressures of school, social media and everyday life, while spending time with friends in a relaxed and supportive environment.

One of the most valuable parts of the youth club is the opportunity to talk about topics that affect young people day to day. These may include cyberbullying, anxiety, exam pressure, relationships, making good choices and other challenges teenagers face. The sessions are open conversations rather than lectures, giving young people space to ask questions, share experiences and hear from trusted youth workers and one another.

The youth club is also open to everyone. Its values and ethos are based around Christian beliefs, but young people of all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds are welcome. The focus is on community, support and creating a place where every young person feels valued and included.

As the new year approaches, there is plenty to look forward to. Whether someone is already a regular attendee or thinking about coming along for the first time, they will find a friendly atmosphere, varied activities and people who care.

The youth club will return on Wednesday 2nd September.
