More than 12,000 people poured into King George’s Playing Fields on Sunday 14 June for Brentwood’s much‑loved Strawberry Fair — one of the biggest things to do in Essex this summer. The fields were buzzing with families, young people, local groups and visitors enjoying a full day of entertainment, activities and community spirit.

For us at ARISE Brentwood, it was fantastic to be out in the heart of the community, connecting with so many young people across Brentwood — from Shenfield High School, Brentwood High School, Becket Keys, St Martin’s School Brentwood, Ursuline and Brentwood County High School, as well as families from right across the borough.

A Day Full of Energy, Fun and Conversation
Throughout the day, our tent became a lively hub of conversation, games and activities. We met young people who were curious, hopeful, funny, thoughtful — and eager to talk about life, school, friendships and the support available to them locally.

Whether they stopped by to chat, take part in a challenge, or ask questions or, every interaction reminded us why youth work matters. Creating safe spaces, building trust and helping young people feel seen, heard and valued is at the heart of what we do.

And yes, many people spotted the Yellow Bag People wandering the fair. Those bright bags always spark a conversation.

A Brentwood Event That Truly Brings People Together
The Strawberry Fair once again showcased the very best of Brentwood. Visitors enjoyed:

  • Live performances from Stagecoach Performing Arts Brentwood

  • Walkabout entertainers and interactive acts

  • Free sports tasters for children and young people

  • Family‑friendly attractions and fairground rides

  • A wide range of charity stalls, wellbeing activities and local vendors

It was a brilliant example of what makes Summer Local in Brentwood so special — community, creativity and connection.

Celebrating Community Spirit
Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Nicky Cuthbert, praised the event as a huge success, highlighting how special it was to see residents, charities, schools and local businesses come together in such large numbers. Events like this don’t just entertain — they strengthen the fabric of our town.

We couldn’t agree more. We’re proud to be part of a community that genuinely cares about its young people and invests in their well-being. From our work in Brentwood schools to our presence at events like this, we’re committed to supporting young people across the borough — helping them grow in confidence, resilience and hope.

Looking Ahead
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our tent, shared a conversation or took part in the fun. We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to connect with young people and families across Brentwood at Arise Brentwood's School Holiday Programme.

If you’re looking for things to do in Essex, ways to get involved locally, or support for young people in Brentwood, keep an eye on our upcoming events and community projects. Summer has only just begun.
